I finally had a chance to watch the Tagalog horror movie Segunda Mano. The title translates to “second-hand” in English. The story is okay, suspenseful but not the type that will haunt you for days. Some of the scary or shocking scenes were predictable or something that you already have seen from other horror movies. Also, I was able to guess the plot about halfway of the movie except for one little twist which I think needs a little bit more focus or explanation on how that happened. Overall, the movie is good… it has an interesting plot and there were no monsters or characters that would make the film unbelievable or corny for me.
What I don’t like about it is the trailer. It is somewhat focused on the second-hand antique furniture and decors and I thought the movie has got something to do with those. I mean, just thinking about the antiques already gives you the creeps, right? But no, not the antiques… the movie has got nothing to do with antiques. The main actress, Kris Aquino, just owns a store that sells antiques and second-hand furniture. The movie rather focuses more on second-hand stuff in general, eg. bags, clothes, vehicles. So, for me the trailer is rather misleading.
Again, like what I mentioned earlier, the movie has a twist and I don’t think you’ll be able to guess it until the end. Yes, in the end it’ll all make sense. ^^
Ah yes… the actors… Kris Aquino and Dingdong Dantes did good but there’s nothing new with their acting. Dingdong gave away the plot for me. I’ve seen that acting before in another horror movie of his. Bangs Garcia’s role was too irritating for me. And I’m sorry to say this but I think that Helen Gamboa’s not that good an actress. I don’t mean any disrespect but I think her acting is a bit lacking.
